The Hayward Phantom In-Ground Pool Cleaner is designed to totally clean the pool bottom walls steps and automatically rises to skim debris from the pool's surface. In auto mode Phantom cleans the bottom and sides for approximately 13 minutes then the Phantom automatically rises to skim the pool's surface and steps in approximately 7 minutes and it dives down repeating the cycle until the pool is amazingly clean. This Phantom is equipped with a 41% wider vacuum nozzle for faster cleaning and a large 6 Quart debris bag that you empty less often. A sweep hose that doesn't spray out of the pool and with programmable AquaDrive water jet propulsion it covers the pool better spends less time backing up and eliminates wear on the pool surface. This Phantom is available in retail and builder type. The Hayward Phantom In-Ground Pool Cleaner will not function without a booster pump.

The product cleans the pool great when it is working. I've had mine for a year and a half. In that time it needed to be repaired four times. First the spinout was a problem. Next the wheel fell off, then the hose tail wore out and now the wheel has fallen off again. Each repair requires a trip to a not so convenient location for repair and an exrended out of service period, not to mention, somehow even under warranty everything wasn't covered and the repair cost is extensive

When it works, it works great.
However, the spin-out design has gone through many changes because of problems. I bought it 2 years ago and had to change the internal pistons several times due to design flaws. It's now out of warranty and it either doesn't spin-out at all, or it spins out continuously.
I would recommend only if the design is fixed.

Great for regular cleaning and picking up debris from the bottom of the pool and skimming the surface as well. It requires minimal maintenance and cleaning the catch bag is a cinch. A great addition to my 20 x 40 inground pool.

This is a great pool cleaner. Replacements parts are not cheap. I had a few service related issues initially but everything works fine. The whip hose wears fast and some of the flexible hose pieces are not very sturdy. I highly recommend this cleaner to anyone.

Nice product very few moving parts a plus lower maintnance. Cleaner gets tangled up to the point you will have to ge involved to get it moving again. In a 4 hr cleaning period it will get tangled at least 2 times. The model I received had a recall on the internal valve assembly which was replaced free of charge at a local pool supply house. When this guy is moving around it will get the job done. picks up large leafs without any issues. Compared to a Polaris I would say the Polaris will do a better job, I own both. the Polaris hardley ever gets tangled and cleans faster. The Polaris has a higher operating cost due to having to replace moving parts/tires/belts etc.
